World of white

Snow has a striking impact on the landscape. For an Australian, snow in an urban setting is odd, belonging in the world of fairytales or foreign books and films.
The pavement, parks, tops of cars and buildings and trees are carpeted in white and the sky reflects the grey-white world below.
That crunching/squelching sound of walking in fresh powder.
Taking short, deliberate steps, avoiding icy or slushy patches on the pavement.

Kids excited, then slipping over and having a sook. No sympathy from me - Norwegians should be used to snow by the age of 5.
Snowflakes catching in eyelashes, piling up on the top of beanies and backpacks.

It kept snowing through the day until this afternoon it was a few inches deep. Unfortunately the snowfall turned to rain later this afternoon and so the snow will be transformed to slush. Warmer weather predicted later this week will complete the melting process.
Then the waiting game until the next snowfall.

  • The waiting game? I hate the waiting game. Let's play hungry hungry hippos. Snow hippos. Yeah, hungry hungry snow hippos. Maybe vampire snow hippos.
